Myth: Soyachunks has adverse effect on you

Updated: Jun 10, 2020

Yes, this much of soya chunks I consume in 15- 20 days. As it is the best source of protein which is easily available everywhere & also cheap.

Now many vegetarians are in a dilemma that whether they should consume soya chunks or not. As it is heard that it disrupts our hormone levels. Yes, it is true up to some extent but not exactly what peoples think.

Now lets dive dip into it from where the myth comes that soya causes feminization in men. Since many of the concerns related to soy come from studies in rats and mice, it’s important to recognize that rodents metabolize soy isoflavones differently than humans, essentially making these studies inapplicable.[1] While individual cases of sex hormone changes in men eating soyfoods have been reported, these men were consuming extremely high doses of soy (3 quarts of soymilk per day, in one case), and the effects were reversed when the soy intake was discontinued [2]. A 2010 review in Fertility and Sterility concluded that “neither isoflavone supplements nor isoflavone-rich soy affects total or free testosterone levels” and that there’s “essentially no evidence from nine identified clinical studies that isoflavone exposure affects circulating estrogen levels in men.[3][4]

However, we should also know the positive side of it: Intake of soy foods early in life may decrease the risk of breast cancer.[5] Some Clinical trials also says that it may prevent or inhibit the progression of prostrate cancer.[6,7,8] Current evidence states that whole soy components other than isoflavones may have favourable effects on serum lipid profiles.[9] A meta-analysis on random control trials also says that isoflavones might exert cardiovascular benefits by improving vascular function in postmenopausal women.[10]

Now I think there is enough reason to eat soya chunks & not to avoid them.
